GETTING MARRIED IN MAURITIUS
To have a Civil Ceremony in Mauritius you only need be resident 24 hours before the wedding is performed. However, if you intend to have a Religious Ceremony, you are required to be resident for at least 15 days prior to the wedding ceremony.
It is possible to have either an Anglican or Catholic Wedding in Mauritius, however although Catholic weddings are possible they are very difficult to arrange for non-Mauritians. If you plan to get married at the hotel where you are staying, most require you to stay for a minimum of 7 nights.
The ceremony lasts between 20-30 minutes after which you will receive your Wedding Certificate. Two witnesses are required to be present throughout the proceedings. If either you or your partner have been divorced then it will not be possible for you to have a Religious Ceremony.
If you intend to marry in Mauritius you will need the following documentation:
+ A birth certificate.
+ A valid 10-year passport.
+ If divorced a Decree of Absolute.
+ If widowed a spouses death certificate along with the previous marriage certificate.
+ If you have changed your name by Deed Poll or you were adapted, proof of this needs to be presented of which must be authenticated by a notary or solicitor.
+ Written consent from your parents or guardians (if either of you are under 18 years of age) in the form of an affidavit authorised by a notary or solicitor.
